January...A "Ruff" Month at The Jesse Smith Library, Harrisville, RI

Each Saturday in January  a children's program with credentialed therapy pets at its center focused on education and reading.  In addition to the children's program, visitors to the library were able to "Meet the Therapy Dog" as they entered the lobby.  The Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Teams featured were from the D.J. Pet Assisted Therapy University Certificate Program at CCRI.   Windwalker's purpose in partnering with the library for this exciting month of programs was to highlight, inform, and educate the local public, and especially children and their parents, about the ways in which therapy pets enhance our lives in health care, social services, and in education/reading programs, and to make them aware of the programs available and the needs we can fill.

February was Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Month at the Jamestown, RI, Library

Children ages 3 and up, as well as adults had the opportunity to meet and greet author Laura Backman and her very special duck, Lemon.  Laura read her new book, Lemon the Duck, and helped the children with a Lemon the Duck craft.

Pearl Salotto and Brenda Stone, Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Facilitators, described the pet assisted therapy programs they present in schools.  Pearl's Great Pyrenees, Panda Girl, also was at the event.

March was Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Month at the Rogers Public Library, Bristol, RI

Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Teams presented programs at the Rogers Free Public Library in Bristol on Saturdays in March.  Pearl Salotto and Panda Girl, Laura Backman and Lemon the Duck, and Tracey Pedersen and Atticus were the featured presenters.  Suzanne MacDougall and Coco greeted visitors as they entered the library.

April is Pet Tales Month at the Glocester Manton Library, Chepachet, RI
Pearl Salotto and Panda Girl were the presenters at the kick-off event on Saturday, April 2.  Professional Pet Assisted Therapy Teams then presented programs each Tuesday in April from 4 to 5 p.m.  Presenters included Laura Backman with Lemon the Duck, Cynthia Vanaudenhove with Abbie, Deb Wesolowski with Holly, Brenda and Greg Stone with Higgins and Eliza, and Jeanne Bazelak with Mackenzie.
